Roaming Through Rome
One of my family’s top destinations that were must stop on our trip through Italy was Rome. I mean how could it not be, Rome is so rich and full of history you feel like you’re almost not meant to walk among these beautiful historic areas. We ended up doing a day trip to Rome on our third day in Italy and turned out to be a perfect day. It was intensely sunny and we had various amounts of places to see and tour.
We started with a tour of the Vatican City making stops at the Vatican Museum, the Sistine Chapel, and St. Peter’s Basilica which we booked through GetYourGuide. Let me just tell you now, you need more than a day in Rome. There was so much to see just on this one tour alone. The Sistine Chapel was literally to die for, it astonished me just how much detail and preservation this artwork needs. Pictures may say a thousand words but nothing compares to seeing them live and in person. My eyes felt deceived as if what I was seeing wasn’t real but it was. I am so thankful to have seen it in person and have gotten a few hidden sneaky pictures. That tour alone was about 3 hours and that’s still not enough time to see everything.
Next, we took a brief break within St. Peter’s Square to snack before heading on the metro to our next stop and tour, the Colosseum. The metro line was so quick, only a 10-minute ride and within walking distance to get to. When had some time before we could enter for our designated tour time so we roamed around, took some nice panoramic shots, and enjoyed the sun. When we entered the Colosseum, it took our breath away. It is so vast and there are so many people visiting but yet you never feel overcrowded. We had to have taken pictures from every angle possible and even had a bird who was ready for a photoshoot. It was so crazy to just imagine what it was like in its prime with the gladiators. After we were feeling a bit peckish and wanted to sit down at a place to eat. We ended up walking a few minutes from the Colosseum and found Wanted. It was a little nice Italian American restaurant that specialized in burgers. I ended up getting gnocchi as I am not a burger person but it still ended up delicious.
After we were satisfied with our bellies, we headed over to The Trevi Fountain and the Spanish Steps. As it was heading closer to sunset, I already knew it was going to be crowded but I was on a mission to reach the front and make my wish, take my pictures, and then be in awe of the fountain but from a distance. After leaving that crowded area, we walked a few minutes over to the Spanish Steps and lived out my Cheetah Girls fantasy. I was also not climbing up the stairs as my legs were already on fire from walking all day to each location but it was a nice view to see. After seeing the steps, we made our way back to the metro station and headed back to Milan for some well-deserved sleep so we were ready for our next day in Venice.
