Me Oh My Milano
Four years ago I was able to travel to Italy and stay in Milan with my mom. I had no idea that just four years later around the same time, I would be traveling back with my whole family. Let’s just say this was a trip of memories that are going to rest safely and happily in my heart and mind for years to come.
We started and stayed in Milan for a little over a week. We had found an Airbnb within walking distance of practically everything we needed. If you want to take a look at the accommodations, click here. It was a comfortable place to stay and as I mentioned the location was perfect. We mainly used this Airbnb as a hub to sleep, shower, and rest as we did plan a full itinerary of places to see and things to do. We visited and toured around Milan and made day trips to Rome, Varenna/Bellagio/Como, and Venice but I’ll get into those days in separate posts.
Let’s get into Milan as it is a vast city with so much to see. We walked around our Airbnb location to find that the tram/trolley is only a 5 min walk, and there were plenty of restaurants to dine in along the Naviglio Grande. We also found that the Duomo was only a 10-15 minute walk as well. We ended up doing the Milan: Cathedral and Rooftop Ticket. Even though I had already done this tour four years ago, it still amazed me at how beautiful the Duomo inside and out truly is. Inside the Duomo is so decadent and magical, it takes your breath away. There’s so much history you are walking around, it’s impossible to take it all in. The rooftop access is also one of the books, you get to see all of Milan and you get to see how much work has been put into the Duomo over the years, and how much detail, effort, and artistry went into the thought and creation process. We booked most of our tours through GetYourGuide as it ended up costing a lot less than Trip Advisor and we had an amazing time on all the tours.
Next, a must-stop in Milan is the Galleria Vittorio Emanuele II. It is located right next to the Duomo and is full of lavish stores one could shop till they drop in. There’s Dior, Louis Vuitton, Prada, Gucci, Chanel, and many more. Then we also paid a visit to Milan’s fashion district which similar to the mall was lined on both sides of the street with lavish shops. We all did our part in shopping and had an amazing time feeling like we were bougie for a few minutes. The retail service in Milan was also well above my expectations as they offered you water, soda, and coffee in practically every shop you went into. After all that shopping and touring, we found a restaurant within a halfway point from the Duomo and our Airbnb to eat at called Ristorante Rugantino. For appetizers, we went for the meatballs in tomato sauce and also focaccia bread topped with prosciutto and little mozzarella balls. As an entree, I opted for the cacio e pepe and it was delicious. The staff was so friendly, they truly got to know each table they were serving and made it a happy overall experience.
