Vibrant Venezia

Oh, how could one describe the sights and smells of Venice? Well, I can certainly try but nothing compares to seeing this beautiful city in person. From the moment you step out of the train station, you are met with the jaw-dropping sight of seeing the vibrant blue canal, the sun-catching white cross-over bridges, and the many gondola boats.

While in Venice, there are so many shops and restaurants to see, so many places within the city walls surrounded by the water. A must-try is taking a scenic gondola ride through the main canals to the grand canal. The gondoliers are super friendly and will take you on a smooth ride with possible signing and/or whistling of music tunes. One gondola was able to fit my family of five with ease and we had a grand time. The views you can see are magnificent, you get to see the local area, where people live, and the way the city functions being on the water.

After our gondola ride, we were quite parched and starved. We came across St. Mark’s Square and walked through it to see St. Mark’s Basilica. Afterward, we roamed around that area to find a restaurant that met our seafood needs. We found one and ordered an appetizer dish filled with prosciutto, mozzarella, sun-dried tomatoes, and olives and drizzled with balsamic. Then as an entree, I ordered a seafood mixed pasta dish that included shrimp, muscles, scallops, prawns, and clams. It was delicious and we paired that with a nice merlot.

Once we were done eating, we were brought out a limoncello shot for me and my siblings to take before departing the restaurant, a beautiful Italian tradition I’ve come to learn and love. We then strolled along the city walls and walked into a few shops before having to hop on a ferry boat back to the train station. On the ferry boat back, we were able to catch the sunset. The way the light was bouncing off the water while also reflecting onto the buildings, gave this beautiful pastel colorful view. Before heading back to Milan, we had to take pictures of and on the famous white bridge called the Rialto Bridge. It is one of the oldest of the four bridges spanning the Grand Canal. One of my favorite references to this bridge is in Spider-Man: Far From Home. After taking some pictures and shopping for some light souvenirs, our time in Venice came to an end and we made our journey back to Milan. If you are in the area or Milan and are looking for a day trip, Venice is a must! Stay tuned for more travel adventures and food reviews and be sure to follow the Instagram page as well :)
